Habits & Consistency

Consistency Over Intensity (And Why Movement Is a Privilege)

I'm not sure how you feel about New Year's resolutions. Personally, I like to call them my "2026 objectives". The list I end up making every year usually goes something like this:

  1. Put God first
  2. Rid my home of "fragrance"
  3. Make sour dough bread from starter
  4. Refinish cabinets

Kind of health focused, with some home and self improvement added in. But there's always a category I go heavy on year after year, and that's fitness.

  1. Easily complete 5 pull-ups
  2. Stretch for at least 15 minutes every single day
  3. Increase resistance on lower body exercises

If you made a list, what does your list look like?

I know for many of you, exercise-related goals don't even come close to making the list. That's ok.

And I know that some of you don't really enjoy it the way that I do. And that's ok, too. But...

I see how hard you try to show up for something you don't really enjoy.
I know how busy your schedule is.
And I genuinely appreciate the effort it takes for you to find the energy and carve out the time anyway.

That matters.
But I want to offer a small mindset shift as we head into 2026.

Exercise is a privilege.

You have the privilege of moving your body. Not everyone does. And, at the same time, that might not always be true for you, either.

There may come a time when movement feels harder, more limited, or not available at all.

So while you can, take advantage of it.

Not with intensity.
Not with extremes.
But with consistency.

The more you do now, the more you'll be able to do later.

This is what consistency over intensity really means.

Instead of thinking, "Ugh, I have to workout..."

Try thinking:
"I get to move today."

I get to steward this body I've been given
I get to care for something that carries me through my life.

You've been allowed this miracle — strength, movement, capability — and you get to protect it.

Every single day.

You don't haven to love it right away.
You don't have to do everything perfectly.
You just have to keep showing up.

And I want to encourage you as much as possible — truly. But here's the bottom line:

You have to do this for yourself.

You need to want to care for your body before need to care for it.

So if one of your goals this year is simply this —
to keep showing up,
to move regularly,
to stay capable,
to build strength you can rely on,
— that's more than enough.

And I'll be right here with you.

That's what we're focusing on this month.
