Summer Transitions: A Season of Change

Happy almost June!

Just a few weeks ago, I was writing about spring growth, fresh starts, and planting something new. Since then, it feels like we've skipped straight into summer. School is out, or nearly out, graduations have been celebrated, vacations are being planned, and many of us are already adjusting to the heat.

Even in my garden, things are changing. The spring crops have come and gone, and now I'm shifting to plants that can handle the long, hot days ahead. The work is still the same (just a bit sweatier), but what grows well in one season isn't always what thrives in the next.

Life works that way, too.

The older I get, the more I realize that every season brings change. Kids grow up and become more independent. Some families are preparing college move-ins while others are enjoying grandchildren. Friends head north for the summer. Schedules shift. The weather changes how and when we exercise. Even our energy and priorities can look different throughout the year.

What I've learned is that while seasons change, our values don't have to.

The way we care for ourselves may need to adapt, but the reasons we do it remain the same.

We still want the energy to enjoy our lives.

We still want the strength to do the things we love.

We still want to feel our best physically, mentally, and spiritually.

The details may look different from season to season. A walk might happen earlier in the morning to avoid the heat. A workout may move indoors or into the pool. Meal planning may need to account for vacations, family gatherings, or a less predictable schedule.

Those adjustments are normal.

In fact, they're necessary.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is believing that a healthy routine only "counts" if it looks exactly the same all year long. But successful people don't avoid change. They learn how to adapt while staying connected to what matters most.

That's what I'd like to focus on going into the summer.

Not how to create an entirely new routine, but how to carry healthy habits through changing circumstances. We'll talk about adjusting your routine, staying on track while travelling, identifying the habits that keep you grounded, and finding ways to maintain your health without expecting perfection.

Because life will always change.

The goal isn't to resist those changes. The goal is to move through them without losing sight of what's important.

As you head into this new season, take a moment to reflect on what might be changing in your own life over the next few months. Then ask yourself: Which habits and values do I want to carry with me?

The answer doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes it's as simple as continuing to do the things that help you feel your best.

Enjoy the start of the summer, and I'll see you next week as we talk about adapting your routine to fit the season you're in.
