What Might Be Holding You Back?

I hope you are feeling good about where you are in your wellness journey right now, or at least moving in a direction that feels right for you.

Happy May!

I hope you are feeling good about where you are in your wellness journey right now, or at least moving in a direction that feels right for you.

This month, I want to spend some time talking about the things that can slow us down. We often call them excuses, but I think a better way to look at them is as hurdles or obstacles. They're the things that get in the way, sometimes temporarily, sometimes repeatedly.

For me, one of the most common hindrances has been injury.

And from what I hear, many of you have experienced something similar. Outside of acute injuries, I often hear about time constraints, low energy, chronic pain, or even financial limitations. These are all real challenges, and they can make progress feel slower than we'd like.

It's worth asking yourself: is there something consistently holding you back right now?

I want to start this month by focusing on injuries, because they can feel especially frustrating. If you've had a recent injury, it can absolutely slow you down, but it doesn't have to take you completely off track.

In many cases, continuing to move your body in a modified way can actually support the healing process. It may look different than what you're used to, but movement is still important. Paying attention to form and adjusting intensity matters here, too. When the body is constantly pushed too hard, it's difficult to recover.

I've had my fair share of injuries over the years, and I understand how frustrating it can be when your body doesn't cooperate the way you want it to. But there are almost always ways to work around a limitation or shift focus temporarily.

Sometimes those periods become an opportunity to pay attention to other areas of your health that might need it. Things like sleep, stress, mobility, or even dialing in nutrition and breathing patterns.

Progress doesn't stop just because one area needs to slow down. It just shifts.

Next week, we'll address another common obstacle and how to work through it.

For now, if you're dealing with an injury or limitation, focus on what you can do, not just what you can't.
